They Know Best.
We have no idea what Africa needs.
For decades, well-meaning westerners have tried to apply western solutions to non-western issues. It’s human nature to want to fix what seems broken and to help those who seem to be in need. However, often those who desire to help forget to ask a very important question: “What do you need?” This way of thinking has resulted in unsustainable solutions, wasted resources, and failure to address genuine needs.
Your Support Matters

When Kato, a South Sudanese refugee, pastor, and African Leadership teacher was falsely accused of murder and imprisoned, he was suddenly facing the death penalty and seemingly beyond reach. We thought the need was obvious: we had to get him out. And quick.
God had a different plan.
Over the next three years, God’s plan had Kato preaching the Gospel in prison. He led many of his fellow inmates to Jesus. When he was released, Kato came out forever changed; now he had a calling. His life’s work was to continue his ministry in the prisons. The inmates, now his friends, still needed him.
Check out some of our allies we’ve talked to just this week!
11 Countries, 13 Allies
Tito Iranga lives in Uganda with his wife and four children, but most of his time is spent traveling all over the continent of Africa mentoring, encouraging, and training African Leadership Country Directors and their teams.
Prison Ministry
For over three years, Kato sat in an Ugandan prison falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. It was here where he found his calling to minister to his fellow prisoners. Upon his release, Kato founded Forget the Past Global prison ministries with the help of his African Leadership allies.
New Dawn School
Irene founded New Dawn in Kenya to help teenagers in Nairobi’s slums access secondary education. Since its conception, New Dawn has developed educational and mentorship programs that serve youth from the ages of 6-18.
War in DRC
Denis Hangi is a pastor and Country Director for African Leadership in the Democratic Republic of Congo. For almost two decades Denis and his team have brought the Gospel, education, and hope to people living in war, fleeing violence, and struggling to survive in overwhelming circumstances.
We are doing something different in the decades to come. For those of us that are a part of the African Leadership network, we aim to support Africans who are helping Africans. Most importantly, we hold space and provide a listening ear to ask tons of questions. We ask “What do you have?” and “How can we help?” to grow their vision for an impactful organization born in Africa by Africans.
